Teaching and Practices

We cultivate students to enrich in the theoretical knowledge, and encourage them to think innovation.  Besides class lectures, students are trained with variety of methods, these include: case study, practical operation, field investigation, and observational learning.

 (a) Theoretical knowledge

During the freshman and sophomore years, there are courses related to body structure, human anatomy, human physiology and systemic health assessment of the human body structure and functions.  In addition, first aid techniques, health management, economic, statistics, accounting psychology and sociology are included in the program to make students aware of the human bodily function and health in social role play.  Because the true meaning of health requires balanced development of physical, psychological, and social aspects, thus these two years curriculum provide sound foundation for the courses studied in the higher-grade in term of applications and for the all aspects of management.

 (b) Theory in practice

The courses designed for junior and senior years include: human kinesiology, fitness assessment, sports injuries: treatment and prevention, and weight training related that allow students to apply into practical application as well as simulation settings.  After learning the basic fundamentals on leisure and recreation expertise, e.g., financial management, business management and human resource management, the students can link the leisure and recreation theories with the managerial practices.  Sports skills courses include: swimming, life-guard, cricket, tennis, badminton, etc.  Students are allowed select a single sport skills and gained in-depth knowledge of that sport.  The interdisciplinary courses such as group dynamics, behavioral modification techniques and therapeutic recreation are incorporated in the curriculum to facilitate the integration the aspects of human health, social cultural and psychology in work.  These should extend to the ultimate goal of promoting healthy life.

 (c) Internship training

In-school period, teachers set the courses at any time to allow the students to study for various occasions.  Students are encouraged to actively seek opportunities to implement what they have learned.  The students are enthusiastically taking part in the sporting events within the school system such as organizing the tournament, refereeing the matches, and providing the on-site first aid.  They are always encouraged and counseled to drill in the actual and simulation settings.  They are even capable to obtain the appropriate certification examinations and qualifications after these maneuvers.  Students are also allowed to get involvement in community services such as consulting people health and providing fitness testing services.  During their junior year, students are required to get the internship experiences in one of the sport or leisure organizations which have been approved and identified for their authenticity.
